As part of the employee engagement programme, a cricket tournament was organised by various Regions of Chennai Zone on 29th September 2019. New Delhi, October 14, 2013: One of the most aggressive Indian cricketers, Virender Sehwag today inaugurated the second season of ‘Paul George Memorial Tournament’. The tournament is being- organised by Muthoot Group, one of India’s largest financial groups, at St. George’s School in Alaknanda, New Delhi.
Present on the inaugural ceremony were Dr. Sara George Muthoot (Principal, St. George’s School), Mr. Alexander George Muthoot (Director, Muthoot Group), Mrs. Mihika Mathew Alexander (Vice President-Operations, St. George’s School), cricket coach Udey Gupte, Ms. Ritu Sidana (Administrator – Sports Academy), Muthoot officials, St. George’s School teachers and students and other dignitaries.
Paul George Memorial Tournament (PGMT), an under-16 T20 cricket tournament, aims to promote cricket at grass-root level in the country. The tournament will see the participation of 256 students from 16 government-aided schools of Delhi. The two-week tournament will be held under the aegis of well-known cricket coach Udey Gupte and will culminate on October 27, 2013 with its finale at St. George’s School in Alaknanda, New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Virender Sehwag said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be part of Paul George Memorial Tournament. Sports is all about love and passion but one should also try to balance studies and sports in life.”
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Alexander George Muthoot, Director, Muthoot Group said, “One of the most effective measures to ensure a better future for our country is by empowering the next generation through better education. Paul George Memorial Tournament – the flagship CSR initiative of ‘Muthoot Haathi Mera Saathi’ programme was constituted in the memory of my brother Paul M George. Paul was an ardent sportsman and wanted to promote cricket at grass root level in the country. Taking his dream forward, our aim, through this sports platform, is to harness the capabilities of marginalized students in the field of sports and explore their talent. Thereby, providing them an opportunity to showcase as well as further refine their cricketing skills through training under renowned coaches at the St. George’s Sports Academy. We also encourage further education by awarding educational scholarships to the best players.”

A large gathering of spectators witnessed the opening ceremony and the inaugural match that was played between Hrcourt Butler Senior Secondary School, Mandir Marg and Ramjas Sr. Sec. School, No. 2. Started in 2012, PGMT was constituted in the memory of Late Paul M George, Executive Director, Muthoot Group who was an avid sportsman with a zeal to encourage sporting talent amongst Indian youth, especially marginalised children. The tournament has been designed as a sports platform for the government-aided school students to showcase their passion and develop their talents on the Cricket field.
The Muthoot Group, in association with WWF-India, is working towards elephant conservation with a special focus on managing the Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) and protecting elephant habitats.
The project is being implemented in selected areas of Uttarakhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal. The project entails measures such as formation of Anti Depredation Squads (ADS), conducting regular training and orientation sessions of these ADS, setting up of low cost solar fences around villages and electric fencings around agricultural fields. Infra-red motion sensors that activate alarms on sensing elephants in the vicinity have also been developed and installed. Torch lights and search lights have been distributed in several areas to help locals in spotting elephants and preventing damage to crops, property and life.
The Muthoot Group is an environmentally conscious organisation and as part of its continuous attempts towards improvement of environmental hygiene, the Group has started a garbage bin distribution drive. The Muthoot Group has provided 100 garbage bins to the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of Alaknanda colony in South Delhi. The initiative aims at highlighting the importance of clean environment and ensuring a more hygienic atmosphere in the area. The dustbins given by The Muthoot Group have been installed at various locations and markets in the colony, hence ensuring hygienic environs in the locality.
Muthoot M George Excellence award for 10th standard topers of 200 students in Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated and distributed by Mr. Koneru Sridhar, Mayor, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The other officials present during this occasion include Mr. Ravi Kumar, Deputy Educational Officer, Vijayawada Urban, Mr Babu John Malayil, DGM Corporate Communications Muthoot Finance Ltd, Mr. M. Venkateswara Rao, Regional Manager – Vijayawada, Muthoot Finance Ltd, along with PTA members, Students and Parents.
Inauguration of Muthoot M George Excellence Award for 200 students in Mangalore was done by Mr. M. Shashidar Hedge, Chief Whip (Ex-Mayor), Mangalore City Corporation. Mr. Babu John Malayil, DGM Corporate Communications Muthoot Finance Ltd, Mr. Arun Kumar Nayak, Regional Manager, Muthoot Finance Ltd, Managalore, were present on this occasion.
Our Foundation has been extending a helping hand to parents from underprivileged and poor families to make the marriage of their daughters possible. The Foundation felt this was a need that they should support wholeheartedly. This support is specially provided for the daughters of widows who have a monthly income below rupees ten thousand. As part of the first phase, monetary support was given to ten widows from the districts of Thrissur and Palakkad.
The second phase of the program was implemented for another ten daughters of widows from Kottayam and Ernakulam. These widows were given monetary support for the marriage of their daughters. This project was launched in 2015 and was implemented in Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Palakkad districts. Mr. George Alexander Muthoot, Muthoot’s Group Managing Director, handed over financial aid amount to the beneficiary widows from Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. The function was attended by the Paravoor MLA, Mr. V D Satheesan, the Ernakulam MP, Mr. Hibi Eden and many others.
