The Walkathon organised by the Department of General Surgery at Muthoot Medical Centre, Kozhencherry during the Obesity Awareness week in October spread a strong message among the patients as well as the general public.
The walkathon was flagged off by Mr.Aswith S Karanmail, SI of Police, Aranmula, at the hospital campus. The 600 plus strong multi-departmental Walkathon participants comprising Dr.Cherian Mathew, Chief Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, doctors ,staff and students walked a course along the main roads of Kozhencherry, visibly spreading awareness on the need to fight and contain obesity.
The placard and banners amply raised public consciousness about how the consequences of obesity can significantly lower the lifespan
As a healthcare organisation keen on educating the public, The ‘Walk away from Obesity’ focused on the need to prevent and treat obesity. This concerted effort is truly an uplifting event which can steer public knowledge towards fighting this national and global epidemic. Rather than restrict it to a yearly event, it is hoped to continue this campaign against obesity on a sustained scale within Pathanamthitta District.
