Under the auspices of Muthoot M George Foundation, 6 Merrit High speed sewing machines were distributed to the Disabled persons at Edakkara, Calicut. All these disabled persons were trained to use these heavy duty electric sewing machines, which were capable of stitching big shopper bags, upholstery materials etc , which will enable the beneficiaries to get more income. With this gift these disabled persons were transformed and they have the confidence to be productive and income generating for their families.
Sewing machines were donated to 50 deserving families through Kandanad Dayara. The beneficiaries were identified by the Dayara after ensuring that they had the necessary training in tailoring to earn their livelihood as tailors using the donated machines. The distribution function was arranged in the presence of local councillors and panchayat members through a transparent distribution process. Those enabled to be gainfully employed through the above initiatives have also been set free to progress towards a better social and economic position. Depending on their individual initiative and application, they also have the potential to improve their individual business and become job providers in future.
