The Kolkata Region of Muthoot Finance successfully carried out the “Muthoot Shape A Smile” CSR initiative, bringing hope and happiness to 10 children born with cleft lip and palate from economically disadvantaged families.

The surgical procedures were conducted on April 9 and 10, 2026, at Dumdum Medical Centre in collaboration with EBMA Foundation, a reputed NGO dedicated to social welfare initiatives.

The surgeries proved to be life-changing for the children, enabling them to eat, breathe, speak, and smile properly. Beyond the medical transformation, the initiative helped the children overcome social stigma, isolation, and discrimination, giving them the opportunity to lead more confident and fulfilling lives.

For the families, the initiative brought renewed hope and emotional relief. In one touching instance, a mother who had been separated from her in-laws due to her child’s cleft condition was accepted back into the family following the successful surgery of the child.

As part of the initiative, a post-operative check-up and felicitation programme was organized on May 9, 2026, at the conference hall of the Muthoot Finance Kolkata Regional Office. The event recognized the efforts of the medical team, NGO representatives, and all stakeholders involved in the successful execution of the project.

The programme was attended by Dr. Goutam Sarkar and his team from Dumdum Medical Centre; Mr. Reza Zakaria, Secretary of EBMA Foundation; Ms. Pinki Biswas, Treasurer of EBMA Foundation; Mr. Suvankar Chakraborty of HelpAge India; beneficiary families; Mr. Md. Abdul Wahid, Chief Regional Manager, Kolkata Region; Mr. Kamal Kumar Roy, Vigilance Officer, Kolkata Region; Ms. Anita Biswas, BM, Gorabazar Branch; Mr. Chitresh Bhattacharya, Manager – CSR, East Zone; and members of the Kolkata Regional Office team.

Mr. Md. Abdul Wahid, CRM, Kolkata Region, actively led the initiative and interacted with beneficiary families and healthcare professionals, reinforcing Muthoot Finance’s commitment to supporting underserved communities through impactful CSR programmes.

Mr. Chitresh Bhattacharya, Manager – CSR, East Zone, played a crucial role in coordinating beneficiary selection and ensuring the seamless execution of the surgeries and post-operative care in partnership with the EBMA Foundation and hospital authorities.
